Theresa Conefrey
Theresa Conefrey received her PhD, with a Graduate Minor in Women’s Studies from the Institute of Communication Research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she specialized in issues of language, gender and power in science communities. As Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii, she taught courses in Women’s Studies, Business and Technical Writing, and Composition. Before that, she taught English courses in Japan, Spain, Denmark, Finland, England, and Germany.
Since joining the faculty at Santa Clara University, Dr. Conefrey has been teaching courses in Critical Thinking and Writing, and Applied Technical Writing. In addition, she teaches graduate courses in Effective Written Technical Communications, and Effective Oral Technical Presentations in the Department of Engineering Management and Leadership in the School of Engineering.
Dr. Conefrey's research interests include technical communication, gender and science, STEM education, educational technology, pedagogy, and trying to bring the two into closer alignment. Currently, she is particularly interested in exploring the ways in which newer technologies open up possibilities for innovative learning in the classroom and beyond.
