New Student Award

One of our new initiatives is an award for students coming into Santa Clara with backgrounds in Greek and Latin.

The Classics Department gives several student awards each year, including the Kropp Prize, given to the major with the highest GPA in Classics; the Arete Prize, awarded to the major or minor who writes the best paper on a Classics-related topic; the Augusta Prize, given to the most promising Introductory Greek student continuing their coursework in Greek beyond the first year; and the Latin Prize, given to the most promising Introductory Latin student continuing their coursework in Latin beyond the first year. We are in the process of initiating another award, tentatively titled the Classical Languages Award, to offer to students coming to Santa Clara with previous coursework in ancient Greek, Latin, or both. The award would encourage these students to continue taking Latin or Greek courses throughout their careers at SCU.
