Lillian Henderson
"Hi, I’m Lillian Henderson, and I am from Sacramento, California. I was first introduced to Classics and Latin in high school, and continue to be drawn to Classics because it combines many subjects I am interested in from language to history to mythology. I have loved each class I have taken here at SCU, but there are a few that stand out. One that allowed students to both learn about, and participate, in the intricacies of Greek democracy was Prof. Lindberg’s Greek Democracy class. Another, was Prof. Crofton-Sleigh’s course on Roman Bath culture and architecture. Through this course, I was able to closely analyze oft-underlooked elements of Roman culture and society. Outside of classes, I had the exciting opportunity to work with Prof. Husser of Biola University in translating and analyzing religious inscriptions. This internship was challenged by command of the Latin language, but was deeply fascinating and I am so glad I was able to work on this project. Currently, I am working towards completing my Capstone on how Rome’s culture of patronage influenced and impacted the military and officer appointments from the Republic to the Empire. After SCU I have plans to attend law school, and one day become an attorney."
