Having joined us in December 2023, Heidi serves as manager for both History and Classics. We asked Heidi a few questions – see her responses below.

Where are you from?
I was born in DC and moved to the Malibu, CA, area when I was 3 days old. I lived there until the middle of 3rd grade when we moved to the Washington, DC area. My people are from the Eastern TN/West VA parts of Appalachia (on my dad's side) and the Ohio River Valley (on my mom's side). I'm sort of from a lot of places.

What drew you to SCU?
I liked SCU because of its proximity to home (I'm about 11 minutes away). I was looking for a Humanities department to support. Then Dan Turkeltaub’s and Amy Randall's passion about human rights issues sealed my decision.

What is one interesting / exciting project you've worked on since coming to SCU?
Putting together the History Peer Advising program.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work? Any hidden talents?
I make lace (knitted, crocheted, tatted, broomstick, two types of needle lace). As a senior portfolio project, I crocheted a nightstand set out of silver wire.
