Open House

On August 26, 2015, Dr. Grace Stokes and Dr. Paul Abbyad, assistant professors in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, hosted an open house during which eight students showcased their summer research work in their Daly Science labs.

Ranging from sophomores to seniors, the students benefitted from working under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Stokes of Dr. Abbyad.

Students in Dr. Stokes' lab use an ultrafast laser to study how pharmaceutical drugs bind to surfaces that mimicked cell membranes. The work in Dr. Abbyad's lab is in microfluidics. Small devices are used to study enzymatic reactions and cellular processes. All students learned to conduct independent research, worked hard, and benefitted both personally and professionally from these experiences.
