Studio Arts Seminar Class Exhibits Artwork in Edward M. Dowd Building
The Studio Art Seminar class is designed specifically for Studio Art majors in their junior year of the program. The course teaches about professional practices in the visual arts as well as to help prepare students for their capstone projects in their senior year. A major component of the class is the group exhibition which students produce. Each student makes new work for the exhibition, students then design the layout for the show in the 2nd floor foyer of the Edward M. Dowd Building, install the artwork in the space, create labeling and signage for the show, write a press release and create promotional materials for the show, and host a reception. For many of the students, this is their first time exhibiting their artwork in public, so the exhibition is a big milestone in their nascent art careers. Learning about what producing an exhibition entails is great practical experience which the students will carry with them into their capstone projects senior year, where they will be tasked with creating a new body of work and exhibiting it in the Art Gallery in the Edward M. Dowd Building. The Junior Discovery exhibition produced by the Studio Art Seminar class will be on view from March 4th through 22nd, 2024.
