In addition to the Studio Art minor and Art History minor, the Department of Art and Art History is now offering several additional minors.
Animation and Illustration Minor: The minor in Animation and Illustration is designed to expand students’ knowledge of design and motion arts, while opening opportunities for careers in illustration, film and television, video games, augmented reality, virtual reality, and other fields after graduation. Students will engage in visual problem-solving, design challenges, and other real-world scenarios. Weaving together theory with practical, hands-on learning, the minor will help students create a body of work showcasing their marketable skills in these exciting fields, while enriching their creativity and personal development.
Arts Management Minor: This minor is strategically designed to combine marketing, management, and grant writing courses to meet the challenges facing today's arts-related, non-profit institutions. The minor will introduce students to the vast range of careers in arts institutions, museums, and not-for-profit organizations and prepare them with knowledge and skills to not only land their first job out of college, but to set them on a path with significant opportunities for career success, personal growth, and continued engagement with SCU’s Jesuit mission.
Graphic Design Minor: This stand-alone minor will equip students with a range of graphic design skills, providing students with the opportunity to enhance potential career choices in occupations where graphic design as well as artistic, creative design thinking, and technical capabilities are valued. Examples of prospective employers include internet and software development companies, advertising firms, design and branding agencies. Through the graphic design minor, students will learn how to participate in the creative problem-solving process, communicate ideas through the explorations of design possibilities, and examine the roles that design plays in shaping modern culture. The minor will provide the practical experience preparing our students for the industry after graduation.
