Dear Colleagues —
As you will recall from my last message, the Career Center has three broad strategies to build a more connected and engaged experience for all students. The first strategy is to Predict (i.e., collect and analyze data). Here’s the progress we’ve made.
1.13% to 99.82%
That is the jump in the percentage of undergraduate students for whom we now have demographic data imported into Handshake. We can now, with confidence, track and report aggregate student engagement by gender, race/ethnicity, work authorization (visa), student-athlete status, and school/college. (Employers do not have access to individual gender, race/ethnicity, or work authorization data.)
Here are 3 reasons why this matters:
1.) We can now share with you detailed aggregated demographic data on who is engaging with the Career Center.
2.) With this increased visibility, we can develop customized messaging and programs for specific student populations who are not engaging.
3.) We can better assess the correlative relationship between Career Center usage and career outcomes across a wider range of factors.
See the attachment for an example of how we're putting this data to use.
As always, I am excited to work together to deliver on the promise of higher education for all of our students: a good job, social capital, and economic mobility in pursuit of a more humane, just and sustainable world.
Thank you,
|

The Career Development Team
Please allow me to introduce our Career Development team. These hard-working individuals do a little bit of everything: individual appointments, advising social hours, workshops and classroom visits — you name it. Each one serves a specific population of students. If you're not already connected with one of these specialists, I encourage you to reach out.

WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING
The career fair piqued my interest in my future career, which is something I have not been thinking about. I learned [...] about the possible companies I could work for [and] what I need to do now to be hired by those companies. Roman

I connected with an E. & J. Gallo Winery rep and got great information and feedback and I am already set up to connect with them again. Elizabeth |
WHAT EMPLOYERS ARE SAYING
Santa Clara students are some of the most engaged I've seen. The attendees all had great questions and were able to build a good rapport with the speaker. Federal Bureau of Investigations

The school did a great job getting students to participate in the fair as most of my time slots were filled with good candidates. Northrop Grumman |
