Dear Colleagues —
On April 12, a record-breaking 866 students and alumni, 66 companies, and 156 company representatives participated in the in-person Spring Career Fair—the best attended fair since at least 2017. I'm pleased to share with you a few photos from the event and positive feedback from several participants.
— Being in person really added to the career fair exceeding my expectations. I enjoyed asking questions and speaking to employers in person. The other job candidates were friendly. I was really impressed with the event. Thank you.

The ambassadors/recruiters were very kind and easy to talk to. Furthermore, I felt well prepared because of the preparation session. Editor's Note: The Career Center hosted a "mock career fair" event on Monday, April 10.

The event was well organized. There was a lot of staff to help guide me through the campus, registration, setup and tear down. The staff including Security was super friendly. The provided lunch was delicious. Most importantly, the turnout was great.
Plug And Play —
The Career Fair was also highlighted in The Santa Clara in a recent article by student Mitchell Heckman. In this article, I discuss why career fairs are a core part of the Career Center's strategy for helping students network and succeed in today's competitive job market. Read it here »
Lastly, thank you to Shellie Barber, Assistant Director of Events and Operations, for managing all five of our fairs this year.
Thank you,
|

Hosting Career Center Trek with SJSU
On Friday, April 21, the SCU Career Center hosted members of the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers (MPACE) for a "career center trek" in partnership with San Jose State University.
Career services professionals from CSU Sacramento, CSU Stanislaus, Mount Saint Mary's University, Saint Mary's College, San Jose State University, UC Berkeley, and UC Santa Cruz visited our campus to learn more about our approach to career services and professional development.
A special thank you to Andrew Gupton, Noel Kreidler, and Vania Tong for helping to deliver an engaging and informative presentation to this group, and to Amanuel Bizuneh, Myriam Bartz, and Shellie Barber for representing SCU at SJSU.

Career Success Spotlight: Jia Seow
With graduation just around the corner, I'd like to highlight one of the services we offer: the Recent Grad Job Search Group, led by Myriam Bartz, Assistant Director of Graduate Students and Alumni.
First piloted in fall 2022, the Career Center is already on its third cohort and a fourth one is planned for August.
One participant, Jia Seow '22, credits this group with helping her find career success after graduation.
Jia Seow '22 Psychology
"The strengths assessment and interview practice were the most helpful parts of the [Recent Grad Job Search] program. I learned how to tell people about myself, as well as position myself as a good fit for every role I interviewed for."
Jia secured a position as Data Steward and Survey Coordinator at Santa Clara University.

Chris Harris to Pursue New Opportunity
It is with mixed emotions that I share that Chris Harris, Assistant Director of Career Development, has accepted a new position within Santa Clara University and will be leaving the Career Center effective Tuesday, May 09.
Chris first joined the Career Center in May 2021 and has made significant contributions in his two years here. Many of you know Chris for his tireless work on Bronco Exchange, SCU's campus-wide student-alumni connections platform. Another of his more visible contributions has been his work on Diversity Works Expo & Awards, which this past year achieved record attendance. Chris leaves both of these programs well positioned for continued growth and impact.
Chris, we will miss you in the Career Center, but we are glad you are staying at SCU and we are very excited for this next stage in your career! |
