Dear Colleagues —
Reflecting on the past academic year, I'd like to share with you a brief update on some of the progress we have made, as a team and in collaboration with many different campus partners, towards achieving the stated objectives of our five strategic pillars.
- First Destination Survey — We collected the most complete set of post-graduation outcomes data in SCU history, and published the results in a newly-designed Tableau dashboard. (Pillar #1)
- Career Clarity Retreat — We re-envisioned the classic vocation discernment retreat to better meet the career development, mental health, and spiritual needs of our students. (Pillar #2)
- Student-Alumni Mentorship Program — This spring, we laid the foundation to launch a new 2024-2025 mentorship program for students in the humanities and social sciences. (Pillar #3)
- Employer Partner Program — In an effort to streamline recruiting services for top employers, we launched the Employer Partner Program, which generated $25,000 in new revenue. (Pillar #4)
- Career Center in the News — Over the past year, we have communicated our unique value proposition through press releases (Possible, Enterprise), feature stories (Inside Higher Ed, The Santa Clara), speaking engagements (Handshake, The Voices of Santa Clara), and social media. (Pillar #5)
As always, I look forward to working together to deliver on the promise of higher education for all of our students: a good job, social capital, and economic mobility in pursuit of a more humane, just and sustainable world.
Thank you,
|

Vania Tong Wins Spirit of St. Ignatius Award
Congratulations to Vania Tong, Assistant Director of Career Development, who received the Spirit of St. Ignatius Award at the Staff Recognition Event on Tuesday, June 18.

Vania was recognized with this award for demonstrating a strong commitment to the tenants of Ignatian Spirituality—discernment, reflection, community, and cura personalis—through her work leading the Career Clarity Retreat, which she secured funding for through the Bannan Forum’s Mission Integration Grant. The retreat took place January 6-7 at Vallombrosa Center in Menlo Park. In planning this retreat, Vania initiated new partnerships with Campus Ministry and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Ultimately, a record-breaking 44 students applied for the 20 available beds, and student feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
Vania, thank you for your dedication to our students and for going above and beyond your day-to-day work in leading the Career Clarity Retreat—we are proud of you!

Congratulations and Farewell to Sunaina Gulati-Ruh
It is with mixed emotions that I share that Sunaina Gulati-Ruh, Assistant Director of Employer Relations, is retiring from Santa Clara University. Her last day will be Thursday, August 1.
A true Bronco, Sunaina is not only a staff member, but an alumna as well. She first joined Santa Clara University as a student, graduating with an MA in Counseling Psychology in 2013. As part of her degree program, Sunaina interned at the Career Center (then under the leadership of Elsepth Rosetti). She returned to Santa Clara in June 2016 when she accepted a position in the Graduate Business Career Management office, and was promoted to Senior Director in April 2022. In 2023, she transitioned to her current role here in the Career Center.
Sunaina has made an outsized impact during her time at the Career Center. She helped restart our On-Campus Interviewing (OCI) Program, was part of the team that represented SCU at the National Association of Colleges and Employers, organized blind hummus tastings for the team, introduced us to "friendship salads," and much more. Sunaina, we wish you well in your retirement and will miss you deeply!
A bright future ahead.
