Dear Colleagues —
Recently, the Board of Regents launched the Regents Experiential Learning Initiative (RELI), which offers grants to support educational or experiential programs that substantively advance students' career explorations. They received a total of 26 applications from across the university and selected five proposals to fund.
I'm thrilled to share that two of these five programs were submitted or co-submitted by the Career Center, including:
- Career Center Industry Immersions: This initiative will host a multi-day Industry Immersion focused on AI in the Bay Area, providing students with valuable networking opportunities and behind-the-scenes experiences.
- Styling Success: Career Wardrobes: This program (which is a three-way collaboration between the Career Center, LEAD Scholars, and the Center for Sustainability) aims to educate students on workplace attire and expand the Center for Sustainability’s thrift pop-up to a permanent store.
If you are interested in learning more about out Industry Immersions proposal, please email Colleen Withers at cwithers@scu.edu. If you're interested in learning more about the Styling Success proposal, please email Melissa Thiriez at mthiriez@scu.edu.
As always, I am excited to work together to deliver on the promise of higher education for all of our students: a good job, social capital, and economic mobility in pursuit of a more humane, just and sustainable world.
Thank you,
|

Britannia Gillanders to Pursue New Opportunity
It is with mixed emotions that I share that Britannia Gillanders, Assistant Director of Career Development, and her partner will be moving to Minnesota. Britannia's final day with the Career Center will be Tuesday, April 30.
Britannia joined the Career Center in June 2023 and made significant contributions in her brief time here. For example, Britannia led the way in re-establishing strong relationships with the San Francisco Forty-Niners and the San Jose Sharks, helping to organize student treks to both Levi's Stadium and SAP Center. Another of her contributions was serving on the planning team for the 7th Annual Diversity Works Expo & Awards, which this year achieved record attendance.
Britannia wished to share this note:
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and students of Santa Clara University. You have made my time here truly special and have positively impacted both my professional and personal journey. Once a Bronco, always a Bronco - please stay connected with me on LinkedIn.
Britannia, we will miss you in the Career Center, but we wish you and your partner the best of luck in your new adventure!

Welcoming Shauna Strauss
The Career Center is pleased to announce that Shauna Strauss will be succeeding Britannia Gillanders and joining our team as the Assistant Director of Career Development (Arts, Humanities, and Public Sector). Her first day will be Tuesday, April 16.
In this role, she will work closely and primarily with students, staff and faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences. She will report to Colleen Withers.
Shauna joins the Career Center from Graduate Business Career Management in the Leavey School of Business, where she most recently served as Sr. Associate Director supporting graduate business online students and facilitating employer relations. During her nearly six years at the Leavey School of Business, Shauna coordinated alumni industry panels, company information sessions, and job search-related workshops and conducted extensive one-on-one career and job search coaching sessions.
Originally from the east coast, Shauna completed her MBA at Hofstra University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Studio Art from St. Mary's College of Maryland.
As we welcome Shauna, I want to take this opportunity to thank Colleen Withers for leading a highly efficient search process. I also want to thank our campus partners – Zach Plaza and Sarah Hays – who helped with the interview process. And most importantly, thank you to the Career Center staff. For all of the time and energy invested in this process, I am very grateful.
Please feel free to send Shauna a note of welcome and congratulations at sstrauss@scu.edu.

Day of Giving: Go All In for the Career Center
This year on Day of Giving, the Career Center is raising funds to hire additional career coaching interns to support students with 1:1 appointments during the peak recruiting seasons of late summer/early fall and mid-winter/early spring.
Our goal is to raise $11,400 to:
- Hire one additional graduate career coaching intern to increase our availability by 600 appointments per year.
- Provide students with increased individualized support, helping them to achieve their career and professional ambitions.
- Did you know? Every $20 increases our appointment capacity by 2 appointments!
Challenge Alert:
I, Dylan Houle, will unlock a $1K challenge to the Career Center when the Center receives $5,000 in gifts on Day of Giving.
On April 10, Day of Giving, Go All In for the Career Center!
