Dear Colleagues —
In this video, you will see me being interviewed by Fr. Jack Treacy explaining why the Career Center is excited to participate in Day of Giving this year. Today, I'd like to share more about what exactly we are fundraising for, and why.
The Career Center is raising funds both to expand our advising services and also to help develop the next generation of career services professionals.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to hire (and/or offer more hours to) career development graduate interns from the School of Education and Counseling Psychology. This is a funding priority for us because this year alone, students and alumni scheduled 1,663 advising appointments (~830 hours) and 140 students came to our drop-in hours. Hiring grad interns will allow us to increase our capacity to provide individual career advising services.
We also hope to inspire in our interns a lifelong interest in the field of career services, so if we reach our goal, we’re committing to send up to three of them to an upcoming career services professional association conference. This is our opportunity to develop the talent pipeline for our own profession.
Is this an area of philanthropic interest for you or someone you know? Please visit our Day of Giving webpage.
As always, I am excited to work together to deliver on the promise of higher education for all of our students: a good job, social capital, and economic mobility in pursuit of a more humane, just and sustainable world.
Thank you,
|

Hosting Career Center Trek with SJSU
The SCU Career Center is a member of the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers (MPACE). On Friday, April 21, we are partnering with MPACE and San Jose State University's Career Center to co-host a first-ever career center trek.
This will be an opportunity for both SJSU and SCU to each share our philosophies of career and professional development with fellow career services and higher education professionals from across northern California.
If you're curious about what we do in career services and would like to join the trek, please email Dylan Houle at dhoule@scu.edu for more information.
