Study Abroad: Seoul, South Korea
Do you have a favorite class that you are taking? Why?
My favorite class is definitely Korean as my professor created an engaging learning environment. I believe the skills and knowledge gained from this course have been incredibly valuable throughout my study abroad experience.
What do you like about your program/university?
I have really enjoyed my program, IES Abroad, as they organized numerous exciting field trips to places I might not have considered visiting on my own. The program leaders were incredibly supportive and readily available whenever assistance was needed. I also appreciated having my own single studio apartment, where I could cook dinner and enjoy movie nights with friends. At Yonsei University, campus was so beautiful and I always appreciated the scenic views during my walks to class.
What has been your favorite place that you visited so far or favorite part about your city? Why?
My favorite spots in Seoul have to be the numerous themed cafes, each offering a unique atmosphere and serving as a perfect place to study. I’ve also loved the hiking trails, which offer a refreshing escape from the busy city life and the chance to take in breathtaking views.
What advice would you give to the 2024 abroad students?
My advice for incoming study abroad students would be to learn the basics of the local language if you're not in an English-speaking country; it makes navigating daily life much easier. Another advice is to embrace local foods, attend cultural events, and connect with locals through communities like clubs, hobby groups, or church fellowships to make the most of your experience. Lastly, remember that it’s okay to take a break now and then. While the urge to explore is strong, sometimes your body and mind just needs time to recharge
