What are you doing this summer? This summer, I am interning at Osterweis Capital Management in San Francisco, California. Over the course of eight weeks, I am completing rotations with their Strategic Income and Small Cap Growth teams as well as their Accounting, and Marketing departments. In the first few weeks, I was trained on the Bloomberg Terminal to conduct returns analyses on fund competitors and perform equity research using SEC Filings, sell-side reports, and consumer feedback. In the latter portion, I also learned how to construct a revenue build, draft a Request for Proposal, and verify expense reports.
What has been the most memorable part of your experience?  So far, the most memorable part has been the 1:1 conversations I've had with folks from all over the firm who are able to offer feedback and advice from years in the industry. I've really enjoyed working under supportive management and being able to ask questions along the way.
One thing you have learned during this summer experience?  One thing I learned this summer is the importance of conducting independent research before forming opinions and making predictions. There is so much data available, but the value comes from analyzing it in the context of market conditions and world events.
