The Microfinance Association strives to educate the SCU community on non-traditional funding sources. We do this by supporting local non-profits and working with the Kiva platform. This club is the perfect intersection of both business and philanthropy.
This club is important to me because I worked with Kiva in high school and saw the impact that micro loans can make for underprivileged entrepreneurs across the world. Further, I believe that it is important to have a global perspective when it comes to business and this club emphasizes just that.
I enjoy leading this club because it allows me to see business and finance from many angles. I love sharing my passions with other students and teaching them more about the impact of micro-loans.
Queer & Qualified (QQ) is a student organization focused on building community and opportunity for LGBTQ+ students and allies across campus. Our mission is to improve professional development, support, and mentorship within the LGBTQ+ community at SCU.
I initially joined QQ to make friends, but ended up gaining that and so much more. I found a group of motivated professionals that support one another and take pride in who they are. The supportive community allows us to all excel and share our knowledge with one another. Another big thing I love is our newsletter because we share conferences and job opportunities for LGBTQ+ students at companies that truly believe in and work towards DE&I initiatives.
One of my favorite things about leading this club is the connections I make. I am able to meet and connect with so many students and employers. It’s inspiring to hear from companies who are supportive of their LGBTQ+ employees and I love connecting people to companies that I know will be a great fit for them. It’s exciting to see the opportunities that our members take advantage of! Along with professional opportunities, I love connecting with fellow members on a personal level through our socials and trips to the Castro district in SF.
