Cole Normandin: Utilizing LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn Learning is a tool that Santa Clara University students get for free through the school. LinkedIn Learning is an online course provider that is taught by experts in the field of many different subjects. Students can utilize these free learning courses to further their learning outside the classroom, and gain valuable experience in a variety of fields.
Most of the content on LinkedIn Learning is video-based, with over 16,000 courses. Each course is broken down into multiple short videos that each have a specific learning objective. For example, an Advanced Excel Course may have 10 learning objectives, each with multiple five minute videos. These short videos are meant to keep students engaged in the course without ever giving an overwhelming amount of content. On most courses, there are learning check questions along the way to keep students engaged in each learning objective. Some also have a final learning test that allows students to test their retention of the knowledge. Once a course is complete, you will earn a certificate that can be automatically uploaded to your LinkedIn profile under “Licenses & Certifications.”
LinkedIn Learning is a great tool whether you have free time and want to learn something new, or if you are studying for a certification test and want free practice. You can set weekly learning goals on the site, which pushes notifications to your email until you reach that goal. Many students are not aware of this resource that SCU offers, and if taken advantage of correctly, LinkedIn Learning can not only strengthen your LinkedIn profile but also excel your professional career.
In order to activate your free LinkedIn Learning, you must go to the following SCU website and fill out the short google form. From there, SCU will link your account to the subscription.
