Belle Yei: Reflection on Being a PCC
What are your top two career prep recommendations?
Networking and honesty are the two career prep strategies that helped me to achieve my career goals. By building and maintaining a diverse set of professional relationships, networking can provide you with access to exclusive job opportunities that are not publicly advertised. This practice enhances your job search effectiveness and supports your career growth through insights, advice, and mentorship from experienced peers. But networking isn't the only tool you need to succeed.
Being truthful about your qualifications, experiences, and skills is equally important. Trust is key to developing a solid professional reputation and ensuring sustainable career advancements. Honesty builds trust, credibility, and a solid professional reputation.
So what's the bottom line? Networking can significantly expand your career opportunities by connecting you with influential professionals and accessing unadvertised jobs. At the same time, honesty ensures that your career advancements are sustainable and based on genuine accomplishments. Together, these strategies not only help in securing a job but also in sustaining and advancing a professional career effectively. So, invest in building strong professional relationships and being truthful, and you'll be on your way to a successful career.
Why do you enjoy being a PCC?
One of the things I find most fulfilling about being a PCC is the opportunity to create a mentorship-like relationship with the students I was paired up with. This means helping them achieve their goals and providing guidance and support along the way. I've had the pleasure of conversing with some genuinely motivating students in the past quarters, and seeing their potential during discussions was just a motivating experience. There's nothing quite like knowing you've played a role in someone's personal and professional development. Even though I may not change them significantly, this is an excellent opportunity for us to learn throughout this process.
