Finance Major, IB and BA Minors

Areas of Interest at SCU and Leavey: I am a Finance major with an International Business and Business Analytics minor. I am interested in joining a few more organizations like the Santa Clara Investment Fund and the Investment Banking Club.
What are your SCU and Leavey activities/general hobbies: Beyond the Leavey Ambassador Program, I actively participate in the International Business Club, SCU French Club, and the Finance Association. During my free time, I love to spend time at the beach, snowboarding in Tahoe, weightlifting, cooking, and watching Formula 1.
What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at Leavey? The biggest resource I took advantage of is the Career Center. I’ve attended resume refresh sessions where professionals have reviewed and refined my resume. I've also gone to career fairs where I have been able to gain exposure to various companies and development opportunities. I have found Handshake and LinkedIn to also be very helpful resources to connect and grow my network and find internships aligned with my interests.
Favorite Leavey Class and Why? My favorite Leavey class was BUSN 70 with Professor Tim Harris. As an undeclared first year business student, I really wanted to take a class that exposed all fields of business, and BUSN 70 did just that. Not only did Professor Harris make the class engaging by sharing his work experiences, he also taught many important life skills, like the importance of turning assignments on time. My favorite part of the class was the Mike’s Bikes simulation. As simulated entrepreneurs, it gave us hands-on experience of running a business while challenging us to make strategic decisions to help our company grow as much as possible.
What made you choose to attend Leavey? One of the most important factors in my decision was the small class sizes at the Leavey School of Business. I wanted to build meaningful connections with my professors and peers. The location was just as important to me. Being in the heart of Silicon Valley means that there are countless opportunities to take advantage of for professional growth.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college? If I could go back in time to give myself some advice while applying to colleges, it would be to not look at the acceptance rates and not listen to other people's opinions. Acceptance rates can be very intimidating, but they shouldn’t determine whether you apply to a school or not. If you believe the school is the right fit for you, then apply for it! Do whatever you think is the best for you, not for others. With everything, the worst thing they can say is no, so just give it a shot.
