Accounting and Information Systems Major

Areas of Interest at SCU and LSB: I am an undeclared business major, and I plan on going into management information systems or accounting and information systems. I am interested in the intersection between business and technology.

What are your SCU and LSB activities/general hobbies:  I am part of the Santa Clara Investment Fund and Santa Clara Consulting Club. I am also an underclassman representative for the Ciocca Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and am working on developing a startup through the Bronco Venture Accelerator Prep School. I enjoy hiking, shopping, baking, and music- singing and piano.

What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at LSB: I have attended many of the events that the Career Center hosts, such as resume and interview workshops. Additionally, I am using platforms such as Handshake and LinkedIn to search for internships. Santa Clara has a strong alumni network, so reaching out to alumni on LinkedIn is a great way to find opportunities. I am grateful to be a part of the Investment Fund and Consulting Club, where I am able to build relationships with upperclassmen, learn more about their internship experiences, and gain valuable professional feedback.

Favorite LSB Class and Why?  My favorite LSB class so far has been ECON 2, which is macroeconomics with Professor Cormun. I enjoyed the interactive nature of this class, and this class helped broaden my global perspective. We learned about how the decisions of the Fed, changes in technology, and policies affect national income, inflation, and unemployment through various models.

What made you choose to attend LSB?  I chose to attend LSB because of the small class sizes and strong one-on-one support. I always wanted to go to a school where classes are interactive and I can get to know my professors rather than being in a lecture hall with hundreds of students. I liked how LSB offers a variety of concentrations and minors, along with its interdisciplinary emphasis. Being in the heart of Silicon Valley was also extremely important to me, since I am interested in both business and tech.

What advice you wish you had while applying to college?  In senior year of high school, with everyone always talking about their grades, essays, extracurriculars, and acceptance rates of colleges, I found myself constantly comparing myself to my peers. Be confident in yourself, and try not to compare yourself to others when applying to schools. It is important to believe that you will end up where you are meant to be rather than stressing about the outcome. Focus on what you can control: research each school holistically. See if you can visualize yourself at the school and look at the school’s social life/culture along with academics.
