Management Information Systems Major
International Business and Responsible AI Minors
Irvine, CA

Areas of Interest at SCU and Leavey: I am interested in Information Systems, specifically Cloud Computing. I am also interested in learning more about AI, which is a new minor in the engineering school. Learning how AI interacts with different systems and how companies utilize AI to simplify and automate tasks really interest me. I love talking to people, so whatever field I go into I hope I can network and talk to people.
What are your SCU and Leavey activities/general hobbies: I am apart of Igwebuike and on board of Women in Business, and ISN (ISA Student Network). Music is a huge hobby of mine.  I enjoy playing my guitar, listening to vinyl records, and dancing. I also enjoy painting and thrifting.
What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at Leavey? There is this new program called The Silicon Valley Executive Presence (SEVP).  This program allows the participants to practice elevator pitches and how to communicate your ideas and aspirations to executives through lunch meetings. I have also attended career fairs to help improve on my conversational and networking skills. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and communicate with several leaders at fortune 500 companies such as, Servicenow, Pwc, Deloitte and more. As a result of being in Women in Business, has lead me to connect with many women leaders in the technical industry and allowed me to receive advice from some great people.  An example of this is, Tanneasha Gordon, from Deloitte gave me advice on how to get into the cybersecurity field and exactly what certifications I need to obtain to be in this career field long term.
Favorite Leavey Class and Why?  Business 70 (Contemporary Business Ideas) with Nik Tehrani. Business 70 is a class all business students have to take, but this class gives you a basic foundation of business and gives you an introduction on how each of the business major functions. I really enjoyed having Nik Tehrani as a teacher because you can tell that he only wants to make sure that his students succeed. He also talked about intrapersonal skills and how to identify your passion dealing within the business field and personally.
What made you choose to attend Leavey? There are a lot of opportunities within the Leavey Business School.  There are several email communications notifying you when there are coffee chats and career fairs. I also liked the location.  Being in the middle of Silicon Valley,  I have made many connections with professionals because of career fairs and business clubs and gained many opportunities as a result. The class size was also a big factor since I could personally talk to the teachers about the class topic or their business experiences. There are several ways to hear about opportunities available through Leavey.  This could include information learned about from teachers, emails, and even current students attending the school.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college? When you are deciding which college to attend, don’t always base your decision on the name of the college or university.  Really think about if you can personally grow at the school and if it’s a place you can accomplish your goals for the future.  Really think about your learning style and the field that you want to go in and investigate each school that aligns with that. If you excel in smaller class sizes, then go to a smaller school even if no one knows about it. Not every school will be the right fit for you. You go to college to get your degree and to learn everything you can while in school. Look for a school that will benefit you personally and professionally and give you many opportunities while you are in college.
