Areas of Interest at SCU and LSB: Some areas of interest at SCU and LSB include technology and the M&A space, which I fell in love with through my internships and courses. My goal is to combine this interest in my upcoming private equity role, which focuses on enterprise software. Additionally, I hope to help position Santa Clara as a recruiting hub for careers in investment banking and private equity.
What are your SCU and LSB activities/general hobbies: Outside my role as a Leavey Ambassador, I'm involved as Co-President for the Latinx Student Business Association, Senior Analyst at the SCU Investment Fund, and serve as a mentor on and off campus. Additionally, I enjoy participating in intramural soccer and basketball.
What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at LSB? I have utilized several platforms, including Handshake and LinkedIn, to search and apply for internship opportunities. I have also leveraged the connections I have made at school to learn more about different industries and receive mentorship to help me navigate through the recruiting process. In my first two years, I was able to complete two internships at KPMG within their Deal Advisory practice. This upcoming summer, I look forward to joining Vista Equity Partners as a Private Equity summer analyst.
Favorite LSB Class and Why? My favorite LSB class has been BUSN 85, Business Law, with Professor Dana because I enjoyed learning about the various legal issues that companies face on a daily basis. Prior to taking the course, I did not have much knowledge or interest in the field of Business Law, but the class helped me to understand the ethical dilemmas present in the business world. Professor Dana was an excellent instructor; he explained the concepts clearly and made the class enjoyable.
What made you choose to attend LSB? I chose to attend the Leavey School of Business because I liked how the curriculum was structured to give students a glimpse of most business industries. The smaller class sizes were also important to me, as they would allow me to connect with professors and peers. Being in the heart of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara seemed like a great place to connect with top companies, employers, and alumni. Plus, you can't beat the upbeat and energetic Santa Clara weather and vibes.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college? Don't overstress about not knowing your major or career path. Some students know exactly what they want to do, while others dabble around before finding the career path that is right for them. Whatever your situation is, I would advise you to take a step back and enjoy your remaining time in high school and college. Cherish the memories you make and the people you meet.
