Reinventing My Teaching: Approaches That Promote Deeper Thinking - Sofia Kotsiri, Adjunct Lecturer, Economics

Using methods of engagement, classroom demonstration and instructional design the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) provides a program that supports faculty to improve students' achievement. Professor Kotsiri will present how she addresses issues such as promoting a civil learning environment, aligning assignments with course outcomes, using concept maps, engaging underprepared students, developing self-directed learners, as well as other challenges faced in online and face to face environment.
Frictionless Commerce: Winning Against the Amazons - Kirthi Kalyanam, the L.J. Skaggs Distinguished Professor and Executive Director of the Retail Management Institute

Companies such as Amazon, Uber, Netflix, Charles Schwab, Rocket Mortgage, Paypal, Apple have fundamentally have shown rapid growth and phenomenal customer acceptance. Based on Professor Kalyanam’s research and forthcoming book he will discuss what these companies have in common and how companies can win competing against them.
Session 1: Leavey School of Business Peer Advisors for First Year Students and Beyond!

Join a panel of Leavey School of Business Peer Advisors for an overview of advising services in the school of business. You’ll learn about the well-defined and holistic team of faculty, staff, and peers who help students learn how to utilize their advising resources to make sound programmatic decisions. Some of our LSB Peer Advisors will describe their special role in advising business students, particularly in their first year on campus.
Session 2: Ciocca Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Instilling an Entrepreneurial Mindset
Location: Lucas Hall 126
Leavey School of Business houses Ciocca Center, the campus-wide center responsible for research, course development and student activities that help students learn an entrepreneurial mindset, including empathy for the customer, viewing problems as opportunities, cultivating a tolerance for risk, and developing an overall awareness of value creation. Ciocca Center also sponsors a series of programs to help students learn how to start their own venture. In this session, meet Chris Norris, Executive Director of Ciocca Center, and Morgan Slain, Director of the Bronco Venture Accelerator, as they describe Ciocca Center programs. Joining them are SCU students involved in entrepreneurship who will share their experiences and perspectives.
Session 3: LSB Peer Career Consultants - Your Professional Development Guides

Join a panel of our new Leavey School of Business Peer Career Consultants for an overview of the LSB professional development program.This new program has senior Leavey School of Business students working alongside first year and sophomore students to help understand the elements of career/internship search. The session will provide insight from these graduating seniors on what has assisted them to be successful in their career pursuit. Understanding professional development milestones and honing relevant skills and experiences is a lifelong practice that begins when a student starts with the Leavey School of Business.
Session 4: SCU’s Premier Professional Internship Opportunity - Global Fellows Program

Location: Lucas Hall 307
A unique, mixed disciplinary program, Global Fellows offers a global professional and civic engagement opportunity, comprised of internship, travel, and cultural immersion. The Director of the Program, Tanya Bunger, and former Global Fellows will provide an overview of the program and share their Global Fellows experiences. Enjoy hearing about students travels and their contributions.
