Kirthi Kalyanam : Google Tracking Consumer Habits : KGO-SF
Kirthi Kalyanam, the Marketing Department Chair and L.J. Skaggs Distinguished Professor, was interviewed by KGO-SF for a segment about Google’s new tools to track consumer habits and controversy surrounding what the company is doing with that information.
Professor Kalyanam, in response to concerns about Google’s tracking being creepy or invasive, argued that the company’s actions are really no different from those of the US Census Bureau. He pointed out that anyone can find demographic data simply by searching zip codes, despite the bureau never releasing individual census data.
