Introducing New Research Labs

Leavey PLUS Strategic Plan

As part of Leavey PLUS, we are expanding the School's reputation as a leader in innovation through new collaborative initiatives and programs that leverage co-curricular, corporate, and alumni partnerships. Through our three new labs, the Leavey School of Business will amplify thought leadership in emerging technology.

AI and Healthcare Justice Lab

The AI and Healthcare Justice Lab aims to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and social justice in healthcare. Through this interdisciplinary approach, we seek to apply AI to healthcare issues, improve social justice in healthcare, and enhance social justice outcomes when AI is implemented in healthcare settings. We believe that the intersection of these fields presents untapped potential to drive innovation and make a positive impact in business and society.

Objective: Our overarching objective is to create a hub of innovation and learning that will contribute to the Leavey School of Business' PLUS agenda by creating research outcomes that align with emerging technologies, leadership, and DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging). The lab's research focus is designed to generate insights that can be implemented in healthcare settings to improve both efficiency and social justice. This will be achieved through the engagement with industry partners in workshops and seminars hosted on campus.

Corporate Sustainability Research Lab

The Corporate Sustainability Research Lab brings together faculty within the Leavey School of Business to work at the intersection of firms, sustainability, and society. Our lab employs a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on expertise from various fields, such as management, accounting, and economics, to evaluate environmental, social, governance, and economic impacts of corporations, which can inform policies and practices to promote sustainable development. The lab is committed to conducting cutting-edge research using highly granular data from a multitude of sources, and developing projects on sustainability issues facing businesses and organizations today, including topics such as climate change, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability. Through our research, we aim to inform public policy, shape industry best practices, and promote sustainable development in the business world.

Objective: The Corporate Sustainability Research Lab is a vital resource for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers seeking to understand the complex challenges and opportunities of sustainable business practices. We look forward to collaborating with others who share our passion for creating a more sustainable future.

AI and Business - The Prometheus Lab

The last decade has seen explosive growth in new applications of digital technology and the data gathering it enables. We can now order a cab at the press of a button irrespective of where we are, travel to new countries and speak in other languages using translators on our phones and monitor where our shipments are at any given point in time. The pace of change is accelerating, particularly with the widespread use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and other Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in every aspect of our life. Furthermore, blockchain technology has been widely adopted and has significant implications of future business models. In addition to making our lives better, this is also leading to newer technological breakthroughs in an ever wider set of domains. However, applying these analytical data-driven techniques in business applications still poses many challenges. For one, the concept of defining the right business objectives and aligning on key metrics has not gone away. Second, scaling these techniques from one-off advisory projects to repeatable use products and apps is proving to be difficult, particularly in many legacy industries. The goal of research at Prometheus Lab is to uncover the tools, processes and strategies needed to achieve widespread, effective adoption of these analytical data-driven technologies in a wide variety of industries and organizations.

Objective: The goal of research at Prometheus Lab is to uncover the tools, processes and strategies needed to achieve widespread, effective adoption of modern analytics, data science and AI technologies in a wide variety of industries and organizations. This objective is aligned with the PLUS agenda because it provides Leadership (L) avenues for students, faculty and participating organizations under a Unifying Purpose (U) that believes in the power of data technology for the greater good. Further, the involvement of outside organizations needs long term Partnerships (P) for the lab to be successful. Finally, Sustainability (S) is a core metric for most business applications and every effort will be made to weave environmental goals into every project the lab undertakes.
