Frequently Asked Questions

An Evening MBA offers the same progressive course content, one-on-one faculty support and exceptional professional benefits as a traditional full-time program, but with classes offered in the evenings and weekends to fit your work schedule. Classes generally meet twice per week, beginning around 5:30 p.m. and ending around 9:30 p.m., for 10 weeks.

Technically speaking, an Evening MBA is a part-time MBA; it’s a graduate degree that is completed in increments and with more flexibility than a full-time MBA. This enables students to continue working and earning income while earning their degree.  The Evening MBA program is considered full-time for international students studying on an F-1 visa.  Regardless of the format and learning pace of an MBA degree earned at Santa Clara University, diplomas will state ‘Master of Business Administration’.

Read more about the value of a part-time MBA.

The Evening MBA prefers (or recommends) that applicants have at least three years of work experience; however, applications are evaluated holistically. Applicants with less than three years of work experience would be advised to present strong academics and test scores.

Candidates with less than three years of experience are encouraged to demonstrate strong academic performance and competitive test scores.

All interested students with a Bachelor's Degree are eligible to apply.

There are no prerequisites for the MBA, JD/MBA or STEM MBA.

Yes, our MBA program is STEM-designated, and graduating students may qualify for the STEM OPT extension, depending on their individual circumstances, such as prior use of OPT before enrolling in the program. STEM MBA and Evening MBA students follow the same core curriculum within the same cohorts, with STEM MBA students completing an additional 12 units of Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA) electives.

Yes, both the Evening MBA and STEM MBA programs accommodate students requiring an F-1 visa to study in the United States. To maintain full-time status under the F-1 visa requirements, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 8 units per term.

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree from outside of the United States are required to have their official transcripts evaluated, regardless if the transcript is printed in English. (Applicants with a US master’s degree are waived this requirement.) We require a course-by-course, cumulative GPA, and U.S. degree equivalency evaluation.

We require a course-by-course evaluation that includes a cumulative GPA and U.S. degree equivalency assessment.

We have several service providers:

Maybe. All international bachelor’s degrees MUST be evaluated (see above) and determined to be equivalent to a US bachelor's degree. Click here to read about the policy for admitting students with a three-year degree.

To qualify for internships, international students on an F-1 MUST complete three consecutive quarters as a full-time student.

Applications are normally open 9 months in advance of the application deadline.

While the GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) has been the standard exam used for business schools, the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) is also accepted. We do not prefer one exam over the other.

We do not have minimum GMAT or GRE score requirements, as our application evaluation is based on a holistic review process. For reference, the average GMAT score for our MBA programs is 630, and the average GRE score is 306. Scores from either test are valid for five years. Applicants are encouraged to take either exam more than once if desired, as only the highest score will be considered.

Applicants whose first language is not English must achieve a minimum score of 100 on the TOEFL (internet-based test), or 7 on the IELTS, or 125 on Duolingo. Scores are valid for two years. This requirement also may be met by scoring at or above the 50th percentile on the verbal portion of the GMAT or GRE, or if the applicant has a degree from an accredited U.S. university.

Duolingo English Test - Send to Leavey School of Business

Yes, you may submit, however it is preferable that self-reported GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, Duolingo scores are submitted with the application. We recommend that applicants take the test at least 4 weeks before the posted deadline. Delays in taking and/or reporting the test scores will postpone the completion of your application, and ultimately a decision. All scores are verified.

Yes. Candidates who demonstrate a strong and verifiable (usually with transcripts) quantitative/technical skill set will be considered for test waivers. Students who receive waivers may be limited on their eligibility for merit based scholarships.

Yes. All students who submit a completed application by the designated deadline are reviewed for scholarships. No additional paperwork is required for most scholarships. Students who submit after the deadline may be considered if scholarship funds are still available. Learn more about MBA scholarships.

The university provides access to both federal and private loan options. Domestic students (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) are eligible for both federal and private loans. International students, however, are eligible solely for private loans, which may require a creditworthy U.S. cosigner depending on the lender's requirements.

On-Campus Programs

Evening MBA, STEM MBA, and JD/MBA:

Spring Deadline (approximate start date March/April)

  • January 20th final deadline

Fall Deadline (approximate start date September)

  • April 1st for scholarship priority
  • June 1st final deadline

Yes, we accept applications after the posted deadline on a space available basis from domestic applicants only. We will not accept late applications from students who require an F-1 visa to study in the US.

During the application process, you may submit unofficial copies of your transcripts or a foreign transcript evaluation. If admitted and planning to enroll, you will be required to provide official transcripts from each college or university attended, or an official foreign transcript evaluation, sent directly to our office by the issuing institution.

Qualified applicants will be invited to interview either in person or via Zoom. Interviews can be scheduled before all letters of recommendation are submitted.

After an application is submitted, applicants will receive an email with login credentials to access their Application Status page. This page will show the application checklist, any missing materials, and provide the option to upload any additional documents.

Once the application is complete, qualified applicants will receive an invitation to schedule an on-campus or video admission interview. Following the interview, most applicants will receive an admission decision within two weeks after the final admissions interview.

If admitted, students must place a $750 non refundable deposit to hold a seat in the MBA program. This amount will be credited to the first quarter’s tuition.

We offer a total of four online programs, including three MS programs - MS in Business Analytics, MS in Finance and Analytics, and MS in Marketing - as well as our Online MBA. To learn more about our online offerings, visit here

Yes, but candidates must provide a compelling rationale for pursuing a second MBA. This statement should detail how a second MBA from Santa Clara aligns with the applicant’s current professional goals and how it differs from the prior MBA experience. Applicants can include this information in the Personal Statement portion of the application.
