Thomas Kelly, Accounting class of 2024, received the 2023-2024 California Society of Certified Public Accounts (CalCPA) Outstanding Accounting Senior Award.

Thomas grew up in Danville, California. Not only has Thomas proven to be an outstanding accounting student, but he has also demonstrated repeatedly his commitment to serving others while at SCU. Thomas is very active in his parish.  (Rumor even has it St. Vincent de Paul Chapter is eagerly waiting for him to graduate so they can ask him to be the treasurer!) Thomas chose Santa Clara University because of its Jesuit priorities in educating the whole person. Many faculty members praised his outstanding character and willingness to help others. During his sophomore year, a non-profit in San Jose reached out to the instructor of an accounting course seeking help with their accounting books. Thomas did not hesitate at all to offer his help! Thomas also serves as accounting tutor coordinator, where he has helped expand peer tutoring to include upper division courses, which is a tremendous development for our students.

Thomas is drawn to accounting because he enjoys numbers. He also likes the auditor’s role to ensure that companies’ financial information is trustworthy. Since the first summer at SCU, Thomas has interned in various positions, ranging from small business to Ernst & Young. Through these internships, he gained valuable hands-on experience and a greater appreciation of the concepts he learned in classes. Thomas also enjoys programming and has a minor in computer science. Thomas has accepted a position at EY San Francisco and will be part of their Business Intelligence Experience group. In this role he will split his time between auditing and working on technology to innovate the audit process; a perfect fit for his skills.
