In Emily Bachman’s words, “My academic journey has instilled a deep respect for ethical standards, especially within accounting.”  Emily works in the Dean's Office and she is the Director of Fundraising for SCU Women in Business (WiB).  She oversees financial data management with meticulous attention to accuracy and transparency.  She said that this focus on ethical financial practices not only ensures responsible resource utilization but also builds trust with donors.

Emily’s leadership experience at WiB exemplify her strong belief in the power of teamwork and inclusivity.  She actively sought diverse perspectives from the rest of the leadership team and empowered others to contribute their strengths, ultimately exceeding fundraising goals by 15% for the year. Her appreciation for accounting lies in the foundation for sound financial decision-making and fostering responsible growth.  Emily is looking forward to becoming a future leader in the field of auditing.

Maia Murphy said that of all of her leadership roles, her role as the SCUAA Student Relations Junior Officer has been her favorite and the role she is most proud of.  She helps organize events to get students involved with SCUAA and SCU’s accounting network of alumni and professionals.

Maia assisted in a SCUAA interview workshop where they had mock interview sessions and a presentation which offered interview tips and tricks.  In Maia’s words, “The goal of interviews is to show employers what cannot be shown on your resume: your personality.”  Since many students have never been in an interview setting before, many become uncomfortable.  She said the interview workshop allowed students to practice their responses so that they could interview with confidence and authenticity.

Maia believes that every accountant has so much knowledge to offer and experience to learn from. She plans to continue to expand her network so that she can learn as much as possible and become a stronger leader for young aspiring accountants.
