Yongtae Kim is the Robert and Barbara McCullough Professor of Accounting at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business (LSB). Dr. Kim served as Associate Dean of LSB from 2022 to 2024 and Chair of the Accounting Department from 2015 to 2018. He teaches financial and managerial accounting courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Dr. Kim's research focuses on managerial opportunism, strategic disclosure, capital markets, and corporate social responsibility/ESG. He has published numerous papers in premier academic journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of International Business Studies, and Management Science.
Dr. Kim is a former Editor of the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, a leading scholarly journal in the area of accounting and public policy. Dr. Kim currently serves on the editorial boards of several prominent journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and The Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance.
Dr. Kim received the University Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholarship, the university’s highest honor for scholarly achievement, in 2018. He also received the University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship in 2014.
Dr. Kim joined the faculty in 2001 after earning his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Before entering academia, Dr. Kim worked as a CPA in Korea and spent two and a half years at KPMG Korea.
