Dear faculty and staff,
As we begin to welcome students back on campus and plan for the coming academic year, we are providing a brief update on COVID-19 conditions and protocols for the remainder of summer and into Fall 2022.
Events on campus
When planning events on campus, please review the current SCU Event Planning Guidelines for COVID-19.
Testing recommendations
Color PCR testing is currently available Monday - Friday in Benson and Charney Hall. Color tests will be picked up at 3PM. Important note: Tests dropped off after 3pm on Fridays will be rejected by the lab. Test kits are also available at the front desk of JST. Contact the JST front desk staff for the schedule. More testing locations will be added in mid-September.
Rapid antigen tests are available through the summer for those who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days and need to test.
- For students at the Cowell Health Center, 9am-2pm Monday-Friday.
- For faculty and staff at the Campus Safety office Monday-Friday. Please call (408) 554- 4441 to let them know you're coming. To minimize potential exposure, the team on duty will have it ready for pickup, possibly outside the small lobby.
You also have access to free at-home COVID-19 tests from the US government or from your healthcare provider and we recommend that you keep some on hand at home.
Please take a test when:
- You have any symptoms associated with COVID-19 (e.g. sore throat, runny nose/congestion, cough, fever, headache, body aches, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea). Rapid antigen tests are most accurate 24 hours after symptoms begin. Reminder - do not come to work if you are experiencing symptoms even if you test negative.
- You have been exposed to someone with COVID-19. Please get tested 3 - 5 days after exposure. Keep in mind that it can take from 2-5 days after exposure to test positive.
- You have been traveling. Test when you get back.
- Before you see family members or people who are vulnerable.
- After you attend an event, if you learn that other attendees were diagnosed with COVID-19.
What to do if you test positive
- Complete the SCU COVID test result survey immediately.
- Stay home for at least 5 days. Test again on or after day 5 using an antigen test. Wear a mask for 10 days. Follow guidance from the COVID Ops team when they reach out via email or phone in response to your survey submission. See SCU's isolation guidance.
- Tell your colleagues and close contacts to get tested (SCU Testing Protocols).
Masks
- The classroom mask requirement remains in place for the remainder of summer and the Fall quarter.
- Students and faculty are required to wear a mask in the classroom at all times unless a pedagogical exception has been granted. Please remember that eating and drinking are not allowed in classrooms.
We appreciate your efforts to support our goal to minimize disruptions to school and work using layered protections to support the care, health and well-being of our campus community. Stay tuned for more information in early September.
Stay safe and well,
SCU COVID-19 Operations Team
