John Hock was co-captain of the Santa Clara football team in 1950. As a team leader he helped the Broncos to an Orange Bowl victory over Bear Bryant’s Kentucky Wildcats. After the unforgettable Bowl victory, Hock was drafted by the the Chicago Cardinals in the 7th round. He played seven years in the NFL, earning one Pro-Bowl Selection, before suffering a career-ending knee injury. While a student at Santa Clara, Hock was invited to compete in the Olympic Trials for wrestling and served in the Korean War.
