Gomez was originally recruited to SCU to play basketball, yet chose football. Manny Gomez, a four-year wide receiver, was an influential part of the amazing 1936-37 season which began with the Broncos starting the season with a 7-0 record and receiving an invitation to the Sugar Bowl. Manny’s senior season ended in an unforgettable Sugar Bowl win on a wet field in Tulane, Louisiana, with Gomez highlighted for a first quarter touchdown reception that got the Broncos off to a hot start that LSU could not come back from.
