Basi was a standout athlete at the University of Santa Clara from 1933-1937. He held the line, very literally, as a lineman for the Broncos. His success at Santa Clara translated into a successful Professional Football career. Bassi was drafted into the NFL and AAFC, playing nine years for various teams: Chicago Bears (1938-39), Philadelphia Eagles (1940), Pittsburgh Steelers (1941), and the SF Forty Niners (1946-47). He was named an NFL All Star in 1940.
