In 2009, the Santa Clara University Alumni Association Board of Directors established a special award to provide financial support for students leaving SCU and going directly into a service program or project.
- The nominee must be a graduating senior.
- The nominee must have been accepted into a service organization (e.g. Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Peace Corps, etc.) for at least a one-year term. The nominee may also design and participate in his or her own community-based learning experience as long as it is specifically detailed in the nomination and can be confirmed by the committee during the selection process.
- The service experience must begin within six months of Commencement.

A cash award will be given to graduating seniors volunteering for at least one year with a service organization. Students who design and participate in their own community-based learning experience are also eligible.
