Jack was born in Monterey, CA. His father was a career naval officer, so his family lived in several places, including Greece, in his early childhood. He considers San Diego his hometown. Jack graduated from SCU in 1977, entered the Jesuit Order a year later, and was ordained in 1990. He has studied at Fordham University (M.A. Humanities), Weston Jesuit School of Theology (M.Div.) and the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley (Th.M.). Jack has served as a campus minister at USF, Seattle University, and SCU. He now serves as University Relations Chaplain at SCU, finding it fulfilling to engage with donors and alumni. His “vices” include coffee and chocolate. Jack took up scuba diving some years ago with our student scuba club, and enjoys exploring the undersea world. He tries to exercise daily, loves to catch up with friends over dinner, and delights in the various arts offerings of the Bay Area.

An artist at an early age and a trained art historian, Fr. Blaettler pursued art studies at Georgetown University, Columbia University’s Teacher’s College and the University of Chicago. Preparation for ordination to the priesthood was at the Gregorian University in Rome, followed by a fourth year of theological studies at the Institut Catholique in Paris. He has taught at Santa Clara, Fairfield and Fordham universities. Before returning to Santa Clara to serve as the Community Minister or house coordinator at the Jesuit Community, he engaged in parish ministry at Corpus Christi Church in New York City and St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco. In both locales he curated numerous art exhibitions as director of the Manresa Gallery, which was located inside St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco.

Sarah graduated from SCU Law in ’93 and received an M.A. in the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries in ’21. Sarah works in the Alumni Association at SCU on the Community Engagement Team offering Service & Spirituality opportunities for alumni. She previously worked in Campus Ministry at SCU and at the Law School at the Northern California Innocence Project. Before that, Sarah taught English and Religion in the Diocese of San Jose at Holy Spirit School and St. Lawrence Academy. Sarah enjoys deepening her spirituality through reading, leading a women’s Ignatian Spirituality small faith sharing group, Catholic devotions, Zen meditation, and yoga, and is a parishioner at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Los Gatos. Sarah splits her time between Santa Clara and Lake Tahoe with her husband, Griffin, and golden retriever, Cheddar. Sarah and Griffin also have four wonderful children who still keep them on their toes as they navigate their 20s as independent adults.

Sarita graduated from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago with a Ph.D. in History of Christianity in 2002. She has taught in the Religious Studies department at SCU for about seventeen years. Her specialties are non-religious methods for the study of religion and comparative mysticism: Zen and Catholicism. She is also Faculty Director of the Unity Residential Learning Community at SCU and enjoys living with about 225 eighteen and nineteen year olds along with her husband and cat. Sarita leads three Zen/mindfulness groups on campus and is the guiding Zen teacher for a Zen group in San Mateo and has led interfaith retreats with Rob Scholla S.J. on campus. She converted her husband to Catholicism and they attend mass at the Mission Church, but she has not yet managed to get him to sit zazen.

Tony serves as the Program Director for Ignatian Spirituality, tasked with creating, implementing, and assessing programs that enhance engagement with Ignatian Spirituality across all key constituents for the Division of Mission and Ministry, especially faculty and staff. Tony holds a B.A. and M.A. in International Relations and an M.A. in Pastoral Care from Fordham University. Tony has served as a Campus Minister for the Diocese of Sacramento and as a Young Adult Minister at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Sacramento, CA. During his time off, you will find Tony hiking, running, doing yoga, sipping coffee, watching baseball, cooking, or walking the streets hoping to encounter a surprise.
