Learn about the dos and don'ts of holiday cookie decoration with Zach Plaza ’07 and Yesenia Magdaleno-Solis ’20. Here's a hint: it's not just about the cookies! 😉

Supplies:

  • Sugar cookies. Buy pre-made from the store, make the dough on your own, or you can do what we did: buy pre-made dough, roll it out with a rolling pin, then cut it with holiday stencils.
  • Colored frosting in a container with a nozzle. Our experts can’t say enough how important a good nozzle is. The decoration isn’t nearly as neat if you don’t have a proper nozzle.

There is no one way to decorate a cookie, and contrary to what Zach says in the video above, it’s hard to make a poorly decorated cookie. He tried to make an ugly one, and it still came out looking and tasting great!

Start with a vision of what you want your cookie to look like or let the holiday spirit lead you as you add flair to your cookie. Remember, whether you’re the one who will eventually eat the cookie or it’s a tasty gift for someone else, the main thing is to decorate it with love.

Daily Advent Reflection: Many of us want everything to be perfect: perfect holiday decorations, perfect gifts, perfect families. As much as it pains us to admit it, we are not perfect, and that’s alright. How can you embrace your imperfections today?
