Q: What was your favorite part of your time at SCU?
A: My favorite SCU experience is the friend group that Santa Clara gave me. I’m still very close with my friends from freshman year. Every year we still find time to get together and we talk regularly, which shows the power of the Bronco community.
Q: What classes from your time at SCU have most benefited your professional development?
A: My classes that focused on marketing metrics, negotiations finance, ethics, brand marketing, and new product marketing have had the biggest impact. These are the skills that I have to use in my role every day.
Additionally, my marketing metrics and new product marketing classes pushed me to think creatively, which has been key as marketing tactics change.
Q: What faculty or staff member has had the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Chuck Byers has had the greatest impact for me. While I was an undergrad, he found ways for us to work on real companies’ projects. And since I graduated, he’s been a sounding board for my career and worked with me to build out a program with VMware (my previous company) to help 60+ students work on real-world projects for my team.
Q: How did Santa Clara prepare you for making the transition from student to professional?
A: Santa Clara gave me a holistic education, which has let me thrive in a business setting. When thinking about a career in marketing you don’t always realize how much you would need to know about other business functions like finance or accounting.
Many of my counterparts were never exposed to other majors when they studied marketing. By having classes that spanned across majors, Santa Clara’s curriculum provided me a leg up.
Q: How has the Bronco network supported you on your professional journey?
A: The Bronco network helped me find new opportunities, get insight into companies I’ve looked at working at, and get advice on what’s needed to grow my career.
Q: What made you decide to join Bronco Exchange?
A: I joined Bronco Exchange to be able to better connect with the SCU community and help current students and alumni grow their careers.
Q: How do you envision Bronco Exchange supporting fellow Broncos in their career journeys?
A: Students and Alumni can benefit from Bronco Exchange by connecting with alumni who have career paths they’re interested in hearing about or finding a mentor in.
Q: Where do you hope to be professionally in 10-15 years?
A: In 15 years, I hope to be Vice President of Brand or Chief Marketing Officer.
