Q: You have two degrees from Santa Clara? What did you study?
A: As an undergrad, I studied electrical and computer engineering. After graduating in 2008, I pursued an M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on digital and wireless communications. I completed my degree in 2010.
Q: When you think back on your time at SCU, what are some of your favorite memories?
A: I loved being a part of an engineering class that worked together through thick and thin and made sure we were all working toward our goals. Trips to The Hut were also a favorite.
Q: How did your time at Santa Clara prepare you for the career you’ve chosen?
A: The professors have a lot of industry experience. With SCU’s proximity to Silicon Valley, I gained exposure to some leading luminaries who came to campus to share their stories. And, the ability to tap into SCU alums, who are by far some of the most accomplished people in the Valley, has been key.
Q: Who are some of the faculty members who had the greatest impact on you?
A: There were several. Prof. Tokunbo Ogunfunmi offered advice at all the right moments and helped ensure I stayed the course. Prof. Katie Wilson gave me encouragement and support when things were tough. Her love for the digital and wireless realm inspired me to pursue the field. Prof. Shoba Krishnan’s forthrightness and firmness have stayed with me. I think of her whenever I have to deal with a tough challenge. And Prof. Jane Curry, in political science, afforded me the opportunity to understand the world and its interconnectedness, especially when it comes to governance and policy.
Q: How has the Bronco Network supported you on your professional journey?
A: When I’m interested in a company, I start by reaching out to fellow Broncos who work there to learn about the culture and values. Nowadays, I’m trying to do the same for SCU students and young alumni. I try to offer insight into areas they may not have considered as they think about their career paths.
Q: How do you see Bronco Exchange supporting alumni in their career journeys? How have you benefitted from being on the platform?
A: Through Bronco Exchange, I’ve been able to mentor others, hear about the challenges they face, and broaden my understanding of the technology industry as a whole.
Q: You’ve been on Bronco Exchange for a while now. What propelled you to join?
A: I wanted to contribute in a positive way to the career experience of other Broncos. I’ve enjoyed being able to answer questions, share advice, and hopefully help them find their path forward.
Q: Looking back, what career advice would you give your college self?
A: Don’t worry too much about things that are out of your control. Focus on the things you can control. Do your very best in those areas and become an expert at them. You’ll see dividends in the end.
