In Spring 2017, a group of students requested that the Student Senate sought to form a registered student organization (RSO) for a campus chapter of Turning Point USA. The group is known nationally for bringing conservative speakers to campus and for maintaining a Professor Watchlist of faculty whose positions it regards as problematic.
The Student Senate ruled against the formation of the group, but the decision was overturned by Vice Provost for Student Life, Jeanne Rosenberger.
The national office of the AAUP has prepared fact sheets about the organization's national operation on its One Faculty, One Resistance page.
The campus chapter of the AAUP sent the following letter to Provost Dennis Jacobs on November 2, 2017, expressing its concern to safeguard the academic freedom of faculty members.
