Thursday, October 28th: The "F" Word-Family: Understanding Family Systems and the Journey Home.
An estimated one-in-four college students grew up with a parent who abused alcohol or other drugs. An even higher number of students come from families with other difficult problems such as overly controlling parents, frequent chaos, fighting, physical, verbal, emotional, or sexual abuse. Being a child in an alcoholic or otherwise difficult family system means learning to relate to the world and the people in it in ways that are not necessarily healthy or adaptive. While it may seem like ancient history, understanding your past can help you decide where you want to go and how you’re going to get there. We want to help! If you want to learn more about how coming from an alcoholic or chaotic family may have impacted you, a friend, or your partner, then come to an informational meeting led by Dr. Jeanne Zeamba
