We have OS patches scheduled for cms and the www servers this Thursday morning, starting at 9:30 am. Here's the schedule:
9:30 - Authoring and Replication are suspended on cms. Patches are applied on cms, and the server is rebooted. This process should take less than 10 minutes. Authoring will be re-enabled after that (9:40 or so).
9:45 - 10:30 - OS patches are applied on each of the three www servers. Replication will be offline while this is going on, but external access to the www servers will not be interrupted.
10:30 - (or sooner, if the patches on www are complete) - Replication will be back on its regular schedule.

We'll be working with IT Operations to install OS updates on cms and the www servers next Tuesday morning, Dec. 12. We'll start at 9am, turning off authoring and replication on cms. Once cms is updated, authoring will be enabled but replication will be off until all three of the www servers are updated. This could take an hour or more to complete.

We're planning an application server upgrade on the cms server on Thursday (10/1) morning. The upgrade is scheduled to start at 8am and should be completed by mid-morning, Authoring access will be unavailable during the upgrade. Sorry for the short notice on this system upgrade - the new version of the application server should improve the performance and server stabiity issues we've been seeing in recent weeks.

The Commonspot database server will be offline for maintenance for a brief period of time on Wednesday evening, Jan. 14th. We expect the actual outage to be for 15 minutes or less. Commonspot pages will not be served from the cms or www web servers during the outage. Commonspot authoring will be disabled on the cms server between 9 and 11pm on Wednesday, to avoid interference with the database server maintenance process.

The Commonspot web and database servers have moved from the IT building to the new Data Center, in advance of the major migration for university systems planned for this weekend. With the cms web and database servers already in place, we should have a stable and available Web presence throughout the weekend.
