FC Gold Pride Hunts for a Win at Their Buck Shaw Stadium Home

When the home team scores in the soccer season opener at Buck Shaw Stadium this spring, it won’t necessarily be the men on the Earthquakes team. The latest team also to call Buck Shaw Stadium home is the FC Gold Pride, the Bay Area’s new Women’s Professional Soccer franchise.

At press time, two former Broncos were on the Gold Pride roster. Midfielder/forward Brandi Chastain ’91 is both a former player and coach for the SCU women’s soccer team. The Olympic medalist (two-time gold, once silver) led the country in scoring in 1990 while at SCU and helped the team to their first-ever No. 1 ranking. Midfielder Leslie Osborne ’05 helped lead the school to its first outright NCAA title in 2001 and was named 2002 WCC Player of the Year. She is currently a volunteer assistant coach for the Broncos.

The Pride will kick off their inaugural season against the Boston Breakers on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at 3 p.m., in the 10,300-seat soccer stadium. Regular season play includes 10 home games, ending Aug. 9. For more information about the team or to purchase tickets, visit www.fcgoldpride.com or call 541-3511.
