Thousands of people gathered on ­campus and paid their respects online this summer to celebrate the life of Paul Leo Locatelli, S.J. ’60, Santa Clara University’s chancellor and former ­president who died July 12, 2010 at the age of 71.

“In the years that I attended SCU, I never met Father Locatelli face to face. I did, however, feel the effects of his leadership in the University and its students. As president he cultivated a community of scholars who would become active participants in our global neighborhoods,” Marena Doxie ’06 wrote in the online memory book filled with tributes to Fr. Locatelli. Doxie echoed the sentiments of many others.

The Class of 1960 will celebrate his life as a “man for others” during their reunion Oct. 8­10. On Oct. 10, the Paul L. Locatelli, S.J., Student Activity Center will be officially dedicated.

A memorial fund for student scholarships has also been established in Fr. Locatelli's name.
