Major in Ancient Studies

Comprehensive, multidisciplinary study of cultures and civilizations of the Mediterranean region before A.D. 500.

As an ancient studies major at Santa Clara University, you will study, in a comprehensive and multidisciplinary fashion, the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome in the context of other civilizations that arose prior to A.D. 500 near the Mediterranean Sea. Our program explores the development, cross-fertilization, and legacies of the sundry cultures of Western Asia, Northern Africa, and Southern Europe, which together shaped many of the fundamental institutions and ideas of the modern world.
