Room Occupancy Sensors Conserve Energy

Santa Clara University's Facilities Department is in the process of adding infrared sensors to small rooms throughout campus. These devices, able to sense heat and/or motion in a space, turn lights on or off when needed. This installation has a large and immediate financial payoff in small spaces, primarily because people tend to forget to turn off lights in areas like custodial closets and storage closets. Larger spaces, like classrooms, are on the target list to be upgraded in the future.
