Students Can Take Care of Fines With Food Donations

Several Santa Clara organizations have teamed up to sponsor a food drive for needy families during the upcoming holiday season. Students can donate extra meal points at any checkout station on campus or drop off non-perishable food items in the library or outside of Cellar Market in Benson Memorial Center. The library is even sponsoring a Food 4 Fines program within the food drive, allowing students to offset $2.00 in fines for every non-perishable item donated.

Second Harvest Food Bank is looking specifically for non-perishable food items, specifically meals in a can (stew, chili, soup), canned meat, peanut butter, low-sugar cereals, 100% fruit juices in single-serving boxes, canned fruit and low-salt canned vegetables. Meal point donations will be accepted through Dec. 6. Food 4 Fines and drop-off locations in the library and outside Cellar Market will continue through Dec. 16. Second Harvest is also accepting cash donations online. Visit https://donate.shfb.org/vfd/ and select Santa Clara University Campus Ministry to make a contribution.
