Take Action

Friday, Apr. 5, 2013

There are multiple student run organizations working to promote a culture of sustainability here at SCU. Clubs such as OCEANS and the Associated Student Government are working to reduce the amount of plastics generated on campus by campaigning to make SCU water bottle-free. Want to help with sustainability initiatives like these? Start today by joining one of the many sustainability groups on campus.

Recycling is always better than sending products to the landfill, but this spring try replacing plastic items that you would normally recycle with reusable options. By doing so, you are cutting back the amount of waste generated on campus and helping the SCU community reach our goal of 95 percent waste diversion. Don’t know which item to pick? Try switching to returnable glass milk bottles instead of the normal plastic containers, or instead of eating your ice cream in a cup, choose a cone! For more options, check out Beth Terry’s plastic-free life website.

Give back to children suffering from illnesses that cause chronic hair loss by “recycling” your hair through organizations such as Locks of Love.

Keeping Santa Clara University students healthy is important to our campus community. Respect your fellow Broncos by adhering to our smoking policies (no smoking indoors; smokers must maintain a distance of 25 feet from any building openings) and informing others of what they are.
