CSA Produce Boxes
What is CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a way for the food-buying public to create a relationship with a local farm and to receive a weekly box of produce. It is a way of supporting local farms and eating locally and seasonally. By making a financial commitment to a farm, people become "members" (or "subscribers") to the CSA. Most CSA farmers prefer that members pay for the season up-front, but some farmers will accept weekly or quarterly payments. The Center for Sustainability supports CSA for members of the SCU community and its surrounding neighbors through its collaboration with the Catalán Family Farm.
This CSA delivery season has ended. Please email email@example.com to be notified when CSA subscriptions open for the 2015 summer season.
Catalán Family Farm
The Catalán Family Farm is a small family-run farm dedicated to sustainable agriculture and organic farming. María Inés Catalán, founder of the farm, is a former farm worker and single mother who manages the farm together with her daughter, her three sons, and their families. She regularly responds to requests from the community to share her expertise and is one of the only Latina women in the US who runs her own farm and CSA program. She was recently recognized by the USDA for her work assisting other small farmers who are making the transition to organic farming.
How CSA works
CSA boxes are delivered every Tuesday to Varsi Hall. Each box includes a selection of seasonal vegetables. You can subscribe to receive it every week, try it only once any time during the quarter, or any combination of dates in between.
We have a new half-share option. This new half-share option feeds approximately four people every week, or two people every other week. Many people from last season could not eat their vegetables fast enough; this half-share option is a great solution for people who are not avid vegetable consumers or don't cook at home frequently.
Full box: $25
Half-share box: $15
Full season (10 wks/1 academic quarter): $225 ($22.50/box instead of $25/box)
Orders must be received no later than noon on the Monday prior to delivery. If you have questions please contact the Center for Sustainability at firstname.lastname@example.org. For delivery dates and prices, see the subscription form. Hopefully, you will love your CSA box, but if you have any concerns, you can email us to cancel any or all of your boxes. (We have not had anyone cancel due to dissatisfaction thus far!)
This CSA delivery season has ended and will recommence in February of 2015.
