SCU London Program in Partnership with FIE

A Santa Clara education puts students in real world situations and helps them assess their meaning through a lifelong journey of learning and service. In London this means combining challenging classes with an internship in business, the arts, or public service, so students experience first-hand what life is like in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.

The Santa Clara lens is wide-angle, allowing students to understand not just what it is to be a student in England, but what it means to be a professional in a city which puts the “class” in world class. Whether it is experiencing diverse cultures, a vibrant arts and entertainment scene, or provocative discussion of the world’s pressing issues, London challenges the student to develop a new perspective on their future and role in a global society.

The program is operated by Santa Clara in partnership with the Foundation for International Education (FIE). Situated in Kensington, one of London’s most attractive and best-located areas, SCU London's comprehensive facilities offer a superb learning and living environment.

The Fall program (September 3, 2014 - December 21, 2014) offers a customized curriculum for Santa Clara which includes an unpaid community-based learning internship placement. Placement opportunities include private sector firms, government agencies, and non-governmental cultural and service organizations. The program schedule allows for maximum concentration on the elective classes during the first seven weeks followed by a seven week immersion in the placement accompanied by the internship supervision class and the British Life and Culture course.  NOTE: New immigration policy in the UK requires that students participating in unpaid internships are required to secure a special Tier 4 Student Visa.

The well-equipped Foundation House study centre is the focus for course delivery and administration. Foundation House is located on Cromwell Road, one of London's main arteries leading into the heart of the city. This impressive five-story Edwardian mansion stands opposite Gloucester Road underground station at the heart of this important and thriving district.

Foundation House contains classrooms, a meeting room, faculty offices, a student common room and administrative offices.

This program is especially well-suited for students who are studying Communication, Political Science, Arts Administration, Liberal Studies, Sociology, English, and Business.
