Daniel Fant '10Peer Advisor: Exchange Programs CoordinatorClass selection- As a Spanish minor it was really important to me that my study abroad location offered both English and Spanish classes so that I could truly make advances in my skills. IES Buenos Aires also offered a business internship class which was important to me because I am also a International Business minor. Location- being centrally located enabled me to travel not only throughout Argentina but also to Uruguay, Chile, and Peru. ---What have you learned from your study abroad experiences that have contributed to your personal, vocational, or academic growth?--- I feel that studying abroad makes one so much more relate-able and interesting. While being abroad in a foreign environment one has to learn to be flexible and understanding. It teaches you to smile in times of difficulty and appreciate when others are making an effort to relate to you. Personally learning Spanish in a native speaking country has lead me to reconfirm my interest in the language and a desire to pursue an international career. ---What advises, recommendations would you give to prospective study abroad students? In retrospect, how would you prepare differently to maximize the study abroad experience?--- Prior to going abroad I sat down with a few students and asked them this very same question. Many told me to learn about the country that I was going to so that I could get a running start. I proudly can say that I followed there advise and did have an easy time becoming accustom to the Argentine way of life. Personally I would offer the same advise with a few emphasis's such as get a map of the city and find where you will be living, where your school is located, memorize street names and neighborhoods. A few other recommendations that I am merely passing on are, make friends with the locals (I can attest to the fact that you will learn the most with them), figure out a way to get money before you get there because the withdrawal fees at bank can really add up, and figure out your school calendar prior so that you can start planning accordingly once in a lifetime adventures. |
