The Center for Science, Technology, and Society aims to improve the lives of one billion people by 2020. Our innovation programs focus on helping engineers and innovators develop appropriate and low-cost technologies for communities that lack access to basic needs.

    The Frugal Innovation Lab trains and unites students, entrepreneurs, and corporate partners for the development of accessible, affordable, and appropriate technologies for emerging markets.

  • iconThe Tech Awards

    The Tech Awards is an international awards program in partnership with The Tech Musuem of San Jose, sponsored by Applied Materials, that honors innovators from around the world who are applying technology to benefit humanity. The Center is responsible for the judging process for the awards, and capacity development with the Laureates.
